Loyal to Powdrell's for years. The food is always good and you won't leave hungry. I'd eat a phone book if it was cooked in their barbeque sauce. The smoked meat is delicious. The historic house they occupy is starting to get a little run down, but they're dealing with costs from a fire at their other location.

This place has been an institution for decades, and is run by the Powdrell family. The 4th St. location is the place, it's a converted house, and you eat in the spacious living room! Family atmosphere, family service with a smile. The portions are large, you won't leave hungry and you'll usually take some home. As a UNM grad, I've tried all the BBQ places in town, and I can say that the beef ribs are what to order here, and they're the best in town - big, juicy, flavorful, and saucy! It can get packed on weekend evenings, so arrive early or go during the week. It's a great place to go before balloon glow, but definitely arrive early (430pm) because everyone else has the same idea and you definitely don't want to rush anything about this marvelous dinner. You also want to give yourself parking time at the balloon fiesta. They also have a meat sampler platter which gets high marks in my book for sure! Southern style sides and desserts round out the Powdrell's experience.
